Interview by Declan Noone
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of the European economies. In Ireland, according to the Central Statistics Office, there are 248,344 SMEs employing in excess of 960,000 people, and in the UK as of December 2017, there were 5.7 million SMEs, which was over 99% of all businesses.[1]In these highly competitive and challenging times, SMEs do not have many of the resources available to the larger, global multinationals. Consequently, the leaders of these enterprises have a direct impact on the business performance and productivity.
Recently, we had an opportunity to speak to Katharina Callaghan, CEO of Wrkit, a HR Tech platform that provides a ‘one-stop-shop’ for employee engagement and retention modules, delivering real-time data insights from five key modules: Surveys, Recognition, Wellbeing, Lifestyle Savings and Learning. Before joining Wrkit, Katharina held leadership positions in Google, Living Social, Tui Travel and Lidl. Katharina was born in Germany and started her professional career in Ireland over 17 years ago.
