NextGen Leaders Series

Interview by Declan Noone

In this series, we introduce the next generation of positive & mindful leaders who are taking positive action for flourishing work environments.

We spoke with Ghita Haloui, Learning & Development Manager at DPD (Belgium).

Ghita, tell us more about your background.

I was born and grew up in Morocco where I had a very diverse upbringing. I had the rare chance to accomplish my academic journey in a dynamic and outwardly oriented environment, where I learned to speak three foreign languages in addition to Arabic, my mother tongue. After high school, I undertook the classical business school path (finance and marketing) without really knowing where my flow was but I was convinced that experiencing the realities of the working environment would somehow help me my find way. This turned out to be the best choice for me because I took my first job as a learning experience and an opportunity to learn about various fields, namely: market research, marketing, project management, human resources, etc. After three years, I was able to identify my areas of flow and fulfilment, talent development and decided to go back to school, IE, to dive deeper into the subject. And the rest is history…

What are your current roles and tasks?

After graduating from IE, I joined DPD Belgium-Luxembourg as Behaviour & Development specialist and quickly evolved toward the role of Learning & Development (L&D) Manager. My team is composed of three ladies who come from different parts of the organisation and who have strong experience in their respective fields of expertise. And this is where we see that the magic of the team resides in the diversity of its members. The challenges ahead of us are multiple as we are the first L&D team the company has known in 25 years. We try to tackle the company’s L&D journey from three angles: ‘I’ (at the personal level), ‘We’ (at the team level) and ‘IT’ (at the results/task level).
