Organisational DNA

Listening to Heads, Hearts and Guts!

By Wim Focquet, Human Resources and CSR Director

DPD in Belgium is part of the DPD Group, the second largest international parcel delivery network in Europe. As part of the DPD Group, DPD Belgium has access to more than 32,000 local pick-up parcel shops throughout Europe, of which 1,600 are in the Benelux. DPD delivers to over 230 countries worldwide and employs over 68,000 people, all collaborating each day to deliver over 4.8 million parcels.

In 2018, shortly after assuming the role of Human Resources and CSR Director with DPD BELUX, I started a conversation with my CEO, Silvio Mestdgh, around the concept that to manage results, you first have to manage behaviours. I outlined that increasing corporate wellbeing would lead to less absenteeism, less accidents, more engaged people and, above all, a much leaner operational organisation. From that starting point, our DNA project commenced.

We established the Purpose of the DNA Project as having three clearly distinct yet interrelated objectives:

  1. Increasing our corporate wellbeing by improving behaviour. How can we live our values in a daily positive way? This would be achieved by:
  • Instilling a climate that invites people to take ownership, based on trust and respect.
  • Increasing our people’s behavioural fitness and instilling healthy habits that optimize behaviour.
  • Training our employees to think with a growth mindset and to overcome a fixed mindset and behaviour.
  • Improve Results: By increasing engagement and reducing the number of days of absence due to work accidents and illness, we directly improve bottom line results.
  • Improve Brand Image:
    • Developing a clear brand positioning.
    • Making everyone (employees and clients) easily understand what our brand DPD BELUX stands for.
    • Increasing focus, pride, loyalty, etc.
